Job Description
Exciting Veterinary Internship Opportunity in Northern Virginia!
Are you a recent veterinary graduate eager to transition from academic learning to hands-on clinical practice? A distinguished veterinary hospital in Annandale, VA, renowned for its commitment to mentorship and comprehensive training, is offering an exceptional internship designed to equip you with the skills and confidence needed for a successful career in veterinary medicine.
About the Hospital and Program
This privately owned, state-of-the-art facility provides a unique and immersive experience across general practice, emergency care, surgery, and patient hospitalization. The hospital has recently undergone significant remodeling to enhance its services and provide an optimal learning environment for interns. The program begins with a six-week orientation that introduces you to all hospital areas and equipment, supplemented by over 25 hours of continuing education on relevant topics. Following orientation, interns work 15 shifts per month, managing a diverse caseload that includes urgent care, true emergencies, hospitalized patients, and general practice appointments. The hospital fosters a supportive atmosphere where interns are encouraged to take ownership of their cases, with experienced staff doctors providing supervision and mentorship throughout the journey.
Hybrid Internship with a local animal rescue center
For those interested in shelter and rescue work, the hospital offers a joint program with a nearby rescue center. This hybrid internship allows you to spend six months at the hospital focusing on general practice, emergency, and surgery, and six months at the rescue, performing over 600 surgeries under the direct mentorship of a specialty-trained, high-quality, high-volume spay-neuter surgeon. This experience also provides familiarity with infectious disease management within a foster-based program and exposure to gold-standard animal welfare transport and adoption protocols.
This internship offers an unparalleled opportunity to develop your clinical skills in a supportive and dynamic environment. If you’re ready to embark on a rewarding journey that bridges the gap between theory and practice, we encourage you to apply and become an integral part of a team dedicated to excellence in veterinary care.
